Rogues Alumni Among Mets Spring Training Camp Invites

JANUARY 9, 2020 – NEW YORK, NY:  The New York Mets today announced that the club has invited former Rogue David Peterson to major league spring training as a non-roster invitee.  Last season, Peterson was 3-6 while pitching for the Binghamton Rumble Phonies (Double-A).  He also pitched in four games with the Scottsdale Scorpions in the prestigious Arizona Fall League.

Peterson pitched for the Rogues in 2014 posting a record of 5-1 with a 3.75 ERA while recording 32 strikeouts in 48 innings and was selected by the New York Mets with the 20th pick in the first round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.


MLB.com ranked Peterson as New York's second best prospect going into the 2018 season. He began 2018 with the Columbia Fireflies and was promoted to the St. Lucie Mets in June. In 22 total starts between the two teams, he went 7-10 with a 3.16 ERA.

The Mets invited a total of 15 minor league to spring training including: Tim Tebow, Patrick Mazeika, Austin Bossart, Ryley Gilliam, Matt Blackham, Kevin Smith, David Rodriguez, Francisco Rios, Pedro Payano, Jake Hager, Johneshwy,  Ryan Cordell, Chasen Shreve and Adonis Uceta
