MEDFORD, Ore. – The Medford Rogues (30-12) defeated Northwest Star Baseball Academy 10-3 on Wednesday evening at Harry & David Field.

Northwest Star’s leadoff hitter Jack Fletcher poked a ground ball to right field to start the game. Devon Canty (Menlo College) threw out Fletcher at first base.

Catcher Ben Kiefer (University of Northern Alabama) back-picked a runner at first in the top of the second inning to help get the Rogues out of a two-on, one-out jam.

Canty doubled with one out in the bottom of the second inning. He then stole third and scored on a throwing error for the first run of the game.

Northwest Star’s designated hitter Kase Ogata hit a game-tying solo home run to leadoff the top of the fourth inning.

Pete Mendazona (Feather River College) singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth, and then Medford native Travis Danielson (Menlo College) walked on four pitches. The runners took second and third on a wide pickoff throw from Northwest Star’s pitcher Drake Estes. Canty then grounded out to short to score Mendazona and put the Rogues back on top.

Fletcher hit a sacrifice fly to score catcher Jacob Cobb for Northwest Star in the top of the fifth inning and tie the game. With the potential lead run at third, Brice Foster (Menlo College) short-hopped a hard-hit ground ball in the hot corner and fired across the diamond in time to keep the game tied.

Northwest Star took the lead in the top of the sixth on a ground ball off the bat of Cobb.

Omar Ortiz (Vanguard University) led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. Jesse Spangler (Presentation College) reached on an error. Spangler was caught off first base before the pitch to the next batter, Johnny Radomskiy (Presentation College). The throw went to first, which prompted Ortiz to head to third. The ball was thrown across the diamond and beat Ortiz to third base, but Ortiz contorted his body around the tag attempt and reached safely at third. Radomskiy then walked to load the bases. Tre’von Dorsey and Rogue Valley native Joe Johnson (Vanguard University) each bunted to bring in the tying and lead run, respectively.

Brice Foster walked in a run, and then Maxx Mahon (Vanguard University) singled in Dorsey and Caleb Broughton (Bucknell University) to cap off a five-run sixth inning.

The Rogues tacked on two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Turner Olson (Chico State) pitched two innings in relief and picked up his first win of the season.
