Rogues Cool Off Heat in Game One

The Medford Rogues faced the Chico Heat in game one at Nettleton Stadium in front of a crowd of 2,268 fans. Reece Green through 4.1 scoreless innings until it was broken up with a 2-run single. The Rogues completed another come-from-behind win as they plated 5 runs in the seventh and then a sixth in the eighth. Medford beat Chico, 6-2 in game one improving their overall record to 29-11 while the Heat fall to 23-18.

It was another scoreless ballgame between the top two teams in the Great West League until the fifth inning with a 2-run single by Heat’s Brock Bell. The Rogues answered in the seventh with a big, 5-run inning. Catcher Braden Stutzman brought in the first two runs for Medford with a 2-run single. Derron Davis then brought in the leading run of the game with an RBI. Leading 3-2, Billy Fredrick had his own 2-run single into left field and the Rogues led 5-2 after seven innings. Parker Kelly knocked in another run in the eighth inning and the Rogues held on to the 6-2 win over the Heat.

On the mound, Great West League All-Star Reece Green earned his seventh start of the summer. Green went 6 innings and gave up 1 earned run off of 2 hits and struck out 6 batters. Green maintains his low ERA of 1.08. Tristan Duncan went 2 innings and walked two batters and did not give up a hit or run, now with a 2.38 ERA. Parker Kelly pitched the ninth and had another strong outing as the Rogues’ closer and retired the side, lowering his ERA to 3.12.

At the plate, Braden Stutzman went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Stutzman now improves his batting average to .206. Parker Kelly went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Derron Davis went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored improving his batting average to .286.

The Rogues and Heat face off again tomorrow night in game two at 7:05pm at Nettleton Stadium in Chico, California.
