MEDFORD, Ore. – With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, catcher Cole Elvis (UC Berkeley), who was brought on as a defensive replacement in the top inning, delivered a walk-off single to sweep the Gold Sox and give the Rogues some momentum for the upcoming weekend series against the Great West League leading Chico Heat.

The Rogues were 1-15 with runners in scoring position before that walk-off single. The lone run scored in regulation by the Rogues was a solo shot by designated hitter Mitch Neunborn (North Iowa Area CC).

Right fielder Brandon Bena (Iowa Western) reached on an error by Gold Sox shortstop Vince Flores to lead off the 10th. An infield hit by Neunborn and a walk issued to shortstop Chad Pike (Daytona State College) loaded the bases for Elvis.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, the game tied at one and runners on first and second for the Gold Sox, it was Vince Flores who delivered a base hit to left field. The Gold Sox sent pinch runner Elijah Smith home, but left fielder Josh McIntyre (Fullerton JC) gunned down Smith on the fly to preserve the tie and end the inning.

On the second Throwback Thursday of the season, the Rogues were honored by the presence of an original member of the 1950-51 Medford Rogues, Jack Cooney. Cooney received a Throwback Jersey from Dave May in a heart-warming pre-game ceremony.

It was the first extra-innings game for both clubs.

The announced attendance for tonight’s game was 870.
