MEDFORD, Ore. - The Medford Rogues (1-1) lost to the Portland Pickles (1-1) 12-10 on a stormy Tuesday night at Harry & David Field.

On the first pitch he saw, Clay Valenzuela-Reece (Campbellsville) hit a slicing line drive down the right field line. It bounced fair and landed into the Pickles bullpen for a ground-rule double.

The RBI leader of the 2017 Great West League regular season, Alex Isola (Yavapai), singled up the middle to drive home Valenzuela-Reece for the first run of the game.

Connor Lowrie (Blackhawk JC) singled with one out in the second inning, and scored on the RBI double by Jayden Hanna (Lane CC).

With two outs in the inning, Valenzuela-Reece then hit a shallow pop fly that landed on the right field foul line, which scored Hanna.

In the third inning, Johnny Delacruz (Louisiana-Monroe) singled, Isola walked, and Jake Hellweg (Bethune Cookman) laid down a great bunt to load the bases. Dante Gutierrez (University of San Diego) singled to right field to score DeLaCruz. Isola then scored on a wild pitch.

The Pickles scored climbed to within one run, thanks to a three-run home run by Joey Cooper in the fourth inning.

The Rogues would punch back in the bottom of the inning. Valenzuela-Reece singled, who advanced to third on the double by Davis Delorefice (Utah).

The Pickles elected to intentionally walk Isola with first base open to bring up Hellweg. He promptly singled down the right field line to score Valenzuela-Reece and Delorefice. Isola would come home on an RBI groundout by Gutierrez.

The Rogues loaded the bases again in the sixth. Lowrie walked to bring home DeLaCruz.

The Pickles had the bases loaded with one out in the eighth. Koty Fallon hit a fly ball to left field. Daniel Lopez, the runner at third, left early, and the Rogues doubled him up to end the inning.

Hellweg then hit a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning to give the Rogues a 10-6 lead.

The Pickles would not go down without a fight. They sent 13 men to the plate and scored six runs in the ninth inning to take the lead for the first time in the ballgame, 12-10.

The Rogue loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t scratch.
